Fiat and Lancia Get a New CEO: What It Actually Means If You're Buying or Selling Today
Arnaud Belloni replaces Olivier Francois at the helm of Fiat, Abarth and Lancia. Here is what actually changes for anyone weighing a Grande Panda, a Ypsilon or the upcoming Lancia Gamma, and what stays exactly the same.

A leadership change on the last day of August
On August 31, 2026, Stellantis announced that Arnaud Belloni is becoming CEO of Fiat, Abarth and Lancia, while also taking on the role of Chief Marketing Officer for Europe. Belloni reports to Emanuele Cappellano, Chief Operating Officer for Enlarged Europe, and will work alongside Olivier François until mid-October to ensure an orderly handover. Once the transition is complete, François steps out of the operational role and becomes a strategic advisor to the group. In the same round of appointments, Xavier Peugeot moves to lead Jeep Europe. Read on an industry news site, this looks like a story about an org chart. For anyone actually weighing a Fiat, Lancia or Abarth purchase or sale in the coming months, the practical question is different: does anything change for the cars themselves, their prices or the launches already on the calendar?
Who is Arnaud Belloni
Belloni is not a new face to the Turin-based group: he already spent sixteen years at what was then FCA and later Stellantis, working on marketing strategy for the Italian and French brands. More recently he has been at Renault Group, serving as Global Chief Marketing Officer from November 2020 and, from May 2023, Chief Branding Officer for all of the French group's brands, including the image relaunch of Renault itself and of the electric 5, a direct rival to the Fiat 500e in the segment where Fiat is currently fighting its most important battle with the Grande Panda. He is, in other words, a manager who knows both product marketing and, up close, the strategy of a direct competitor in exactly the segment that matters most right now.
The legacy Olivier François leaves behind
François leaves a considerable legacy. He was the architect behind the electric Fiat 500's return and its 1950s-inspired design language, and he drove Lancia's relaunch around the new Ypsilon, presented as the manifesto of the brand's rebirth and reaching showrooms in 2024. Under his leadership, Lancia also launched the sporty Ypsilon HF variant, with a 240 hp electric motor and front-wheel drive priced at around 45,000 euros, followed by the all-wheel-drive HF Integrale version. He also publicly defended, as recently as earlier this year, the goal of closing out 2026 with a Fiat lineup the brand had not had in a long time, including the return of LPG power on the traditional Panda and a manual, petrol-only gearbox option on the Ypsilon and the Fiat 600.
What does NOT change in the coming months
The most reassuring fact for anyone watching the market right now is that the product pipeline for the rest of 2026 is already written and funded, and does not hinge on a late-August appointment. The traditional Fiat Panda stays in production until 2029 with a 1.0-litre FireFly mild-hybrid engine and factory-fitted LPG, while the Grande Panda, named car of the year 2026 by Quattroruote, keeps up its momentum: it broke into the top four of Italian new-car registrations in January and drove Fiat's first-quarter sales. On the Lancia side, the Ypsilon lineup gains a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre, 100 hp engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox during 2026, a direct response to buyers who wanted a cheaper, less electrified alternative to the launch lineup. None of these moves depend on who sits in the CEO's office: they are product decisions made long ago, with parts already ordered and plants scheduled months in advance.
The real unknown: what happens after the Lancia Gamma
The real test for Belloni comes in the second half of 2026, with the launch of the new Lancia Gamma. Built on the STLA Medium platform at the Melfi plant, the same line that builds the DS N°8, the Gamma marks Lancia's return to the premium segment with electric and hybrid powertrains, aimed at families and upmarket corporate fleets. It is a launch that has been on the books for a while, but it is the first major test to land under Belloni's watch, and how it gets priced and positioned will say a lot about continuity, or the lack of it, with François's approach. Further out, the fate of the Lancia Delta remains open, pencilled in for 2028-2029 but not yet confirmed in Stellantis's product portfolio through 2030, and the same goes for a possible Lancia city car smaller than the Ypsilon on the STLA Small platform earmarked for the Pomigliano d'Arco plant. These are exactly the projects most exposed to a strategic rethink under a new CEO with a different background from François's.
What this means if you are about to buy today
For anyone already eyeing a Grande Panda, a Ypsilon with the new manual 1.2, or an Abarth, Belloni's appointment is no reason to hold off: the models, list prices and delivery timelines announced so far remain valid, because they stem from industrial decisions already locked in. It is a different story for the future Lancia Gamma: as the first premium product to launch under the new leadership, it would not be surprising to see some fine-tuning of pricing or positioning strategy in the months after launch, so it is worth waiting for the first road tests and final price lists before signing an order, especially for anyone considering it as a fleet vehicle.
What this means if you are selling a used Fiat or Lancia
On the used market, the most concrete news for a seller is that the traditional Panda is not going away any time soon: it stays in production through 2029, which keeps values for already-circulating used Pandas relatively stable, without the fear of a sudden production stop that so often drags down prices for outgoing models. For owners of a first-generation revival Ypsilon (2024-2025), the arrival of the cheaper manual 1.2 in the new lineup could make used electrified versions slightly more price-competitive, something worth keeping in mind when pricing a listing over the coming months.
The practical takeaway
A CEO change makes headlines but rarely changes, in the short term, what actually matters to a buyer or seller: the models currently in production, the engines on offer and today's list prices remain the ones decided months ago. Caution is only warranted for launches that have not happened yet, in this case the Lancia Gamma, where it is worth waiting for real-world feedback before committing. For everything else, the Fiat Grande Panda, the LPG-powered classic Panda and the new manual Ypsilon remain solid choices today, with or without Arnaud Belloni at the helm.
